DIY: PAINTED POTS

I’m sure you’ve seen all of the incredible painted pots circulating on Pinterest and have probably pinned quite a few.

I’m going on one month quarantined now, and might be going slightly insane.
So I thought I would attempt to DIY some hand-painted pots myself.
This is my first attempt, so bear with me:)
Supplies:
Patio Paint, Soft Measuring Tape, Pencil, Paint Brush, and Sealer
All of these pots are from the defect section at Pottery MFG
First I have to think of what my design will be.
Second, I’ll wrap my measuring tape around the circumference of the top of the pot and mark an evenly spaced number of dots along the edge.
Third, I’ll wrap the measuring tape around again about half way down and measure and mark alternating dots. I’m free-handing the rest, making a pencil outline for my design. But I think on my next attempt, a stencil might be a little easier.
Next is the paint. Probably the trickiest part.
If you mess up, there’s no eraser:)
Then you want to paint along your pencil lines, barely going over the edge if you can and keep the lines straight, just so you don’t leave pencil marks like I did.
The last, final and probably most important step is to seal the outside AND the inside! I didn’t know this, and once I put soil in the pot and watered it, it seeped through the pot and turned my paint brown. A bit of a bummer, so don’t do what I did!
Not bad!
Being that this is my first try at this, I’m pretty happy with how these came out.
As long as you don’t get up too close they look pretty good:)
