FROM BLAH TO BOLD
PART ONE: How to refresh a tired old slab of concrete and make it into something beautiful.

How can an area so small, be so bad? Easy, years of neglect, fading chipping paint, rust etc.
This little tiny porch is the first thing you see when you walk out our back door, and I can’t look at it any more in it’s condition.
It’s time for a Face Lift.
Up until now the only purpose this rusty railing has served is a rack for drying Strader’s wetsuits, or as a tie up for Rogue when he digs in the backyard.
First things first, I sprayed the railing with Rustoleum Black Spray paint. I taped off the wall, but it still got on there, so now looking back I should have just used Direct to Metal paint and painted it on with a brush. Probably would have been a lot cleaner:)
To start, I painted the edges and details with old leftover Stucco and Masonry Paint in Ultra Pure White and a cheap brush from Home Depot.
Then I used a roller for the rest.
The Stucco paint sucked, so I had to make a Home Depot run and grab some legit Porch and Patio Paint in Ultra Pure White and that was so much better!
Now to let it dry and then seal.
After letting it dry a full day, I followed up with three thin layers of sealant. Be careful though this stuff is super watery! You barely need any, just roll on a thin layer at a time and give it plenty of time to dry in between.
Next we stencil!
